Position Title: Music Director & Symphony Conductor
Organization: Founded in 2017, The Greater North Texas Youth Orchestra (GNTYO) is dedicated to providing exceptional orchestral training and performance opportunities for talented young musicians throughout North Texas. Through artistic excellence, education, and community engagement, GNTYO inspires students to develop their musical abilities, leadership skills, and lifelong appreciation for the arts.
Position Summary: The Symphony Conductor serves as the artistic leader of the Greater North Texas Youth Orchestra's second ensemble. The symphony is a full symphony ensemble consists of 60 - 65 member. The conductor is responsible for planning and leading rehearsals and performances, fostering musical growth among student musicians, and helping advance the organization's mission of artistic excellence and youth development.
The ideal candidate is an inspiring educator, experienced conductor, and collaborative leader who is passionate about working with young musicians and helping them achieve their full artistic potential.

Key Responsibilities Artistic Leadership
- Conduct all scheduled rehearsals, concerts, and special performances.
- Develop season repertoire that challenges and inspires student musicians while supporting educational objectives.
- Establish and maintain high artistic standards for the orchestra.
- Provide musical interpretation, technical instruction, and ensemble leadership.
Student Development
- Mentor and inspire students in musical growth, leadership, and professionalism.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Provide constructive feedback to students and section leaders.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for student recognition and advancement.
Program Planning
- Collaborate with artistic director on season planning and artistic vision.
- Participate in auditions, placement evaluations, and ensemble assessments.
- Recommend guest artists, clinicians, and educational programming opportunities.
Community Engagement
- Serve as an ambassador for the organization throughout the community.
- Support recruitment and retention efforts.
- Participate in donor, parent, and community events as requested.
- Promote the value of youth music education and orchestral performance.
Collaboration
- Work closely with artistic director, board members, staff, music educators, and volunteers.
- Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and organizational leadership.
- Support strategic goals and organizational initiatives.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Conducting, or a related field.
- Demonstrated conducting experience with orchestral ensembles.
- Experience teaching or working with youth musicians.
- Strong rehearsal planning, conducting, and communication skills.
- Ability to inspire students while maintaining high musical standards.
Preferred
- Experience leading youth orchestras or advanced student ensembles.
- Experienced Orchestra or Band director in the ISD system.
- Knowledge of orchestral repertoire appropriate for middle school through high school musicians.
- Community engagement and arts advocacy experience.
