GNTYO rehearsal home. The McKinney Performing Arts Center
GNTYO 2020 Christmas food drive donation event
On December 12, 2020 The Greater North Texas Youth gave back to our community. Organized by board member, Jennifer Terrasi, our organization had a food drive donation event. Members of the Greater North Texas Youth Orchestra attended to serenade the drive by donors. The police department and the fire department visited us. Additionally, our Mayor, George Fuller and First Lady, Maylee Thomas came and gave us a visit. Great Job to our GNTYO students.

I enjoyed and benefited from my time in the GNTYO. At first I was hesitant about joining as I’d never heard of the program before. However, I am so glad I did. The GNTYO gave me so many opportunities other orchestras simply would not have had the patience to work out. Not only did I have the privilege to serve as Concertmaster, I had the opportunity to participate in the Mckinney Philharmonic mentorship program, perform with a Grammy award winning polka
group, compete in a concerto competition, and have a master class with the amazing DSO Concertmaster Alex Kerr. If I wasn’t going to college in the Fall I would definitely audition again for the GNTYO.

Since Audrey joined The GNTYO, she has definitely grown more maturely of her cello skills. This program is definitely a great opportunity for students to develop their love for music as well as a deeper understanding of their musical instruments. We always look forward to the concerts performed by the young talented musicians. The combination of string instruments along with woodwinds, brass, and percussion sounds put out a very harmonic music to the ears. The concert is fun, enjoyable and relaxing. I strongly recommend joining the GNTYO program as it unlocks levels of musical talents in your child. On top of that, Director Maestro, Mr. Jason Lim is great to work with and I am glad that my daughter is part of the program.

As a parent, I'm very thankful for an organization such as the Greater North Texas Youth Orchestra. In 2017, my daughter was just getting serious with her viola and was seeking a way to perform in an orchestra since her small, private school didn't have an orchestra program. As I began my search, I discovered a brand new youth orchestra with a rehearsal schedule that worked for us. Since those early days, my daughter has gained friends, been exposed to a wide variety of music, and learned critical leadership skills as the principal violist. She was also honored to participate in the mentorship program, a special opportunity to play with the adult symphony, as well as chosen to participate in a master class with DSO Concertmaster, Alex Kerr. She is now heading off to college to pursue a degree in music and I have the confidence that she's been, in part, well prepared by her participation in the GNTYO.
